On Saturday, April 28, runners and walkers will gather at Memorial City Mall, outside JC Penny, to participate in Spring Branch Education Foundation’s 20th annual Running for the Arts (RFA). This year’s goal is 2012 participants in 2012!
“Running for the Arts has developed into a community festival,” says LaSondra Frenza, who is chairing the event for the second year. “We’ll have music, children’s activities, an after-race party, and much more! We’re celebrating the 20th anniversary of Running for the Arts, so it’s not to be missed!
“This year, we’re adding something new. Student runners will have an opportunity to solicit running sponsorships from friends and family members. Top fundraisers – one in elementary and one in secondary schools – will win an iPad. As students collect sponsorships in $50 increments, they will earn raffle tickets for a drawing for an iTouch Nano, again one at the elementary and one at the secondary level.”
You can help make the 20th anniversary Running for the Arts a success:
RFA will begin at 8 a.m. for competitive runners; 5K walkers will follow. The KidsK (1K) non-competitive run for participants in 8th grade or younger will begin at 9 a.m.
Race packets may be picked up at Memorial City Mall in the food court area on Thursday, April 26, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Friday, April 27, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., and prior to the event on Saturday, April 28, 6:30 – 7:45 a.m.
RFA proceeds will be used by SBEF to fund cultural arts field trips for SBISD students in elementary and middle schools. The district’s Health Fitness Association also will receive funding to award scholarships to students and teachers.
This year’s RFA is certain to be a 20th anniversary extravaganza. See you in your running shoes!
